Open Monument Day

On Saturday September 12th & Sunday September 13th, Fotomuseum Hilversum is once again participating in Open Monument Day. Visit the museum for free to discover the history of the building and visit the exhibitions.

History of the building

Fotomuseum Hilversum is housed in the former town hall of Hilversum on the Kerkbrink. The core of the building is now about 250 years old, making it one of the oldest buildings in Hilversum. The Old Town Hall was designed in 1880-1881 by municipal architect Johannes Rietbergen (1836-1896) and served as Hilversum's town hall until 1931. The modern extension at the rear of the building (architect Hans Ruyssenaars), where a large part of the exhibitions is now located, was completed in July 2005.

Layered Realities: Photography & Collage
Fifteen contemporary artists use collage to break open photography, critically reinterpret history, and imagine new worlds. By cutting and combining images (multimedia), tangible, layered works are created that make you look at images differently. Read more.

Mother Song II − Wineke Gartz
In this solo exhibition, Gartz connects her fascination with activism with her interest in hypnosis, rhythm, and the healing power of art. By bringing together archival material, new images, abstract forms, objects, and sound, Gartz makes the energy of protest palpable in the present once again. Read more.
