Koen Hauser: Palace of Photographic Sculptures

Photography,
sculptures &
installations

An intricate and extensive installation of two-dimensional photographic images in which sculpture and photography influence each other and seamlessly merge. The exhibition presents various projects by Hauser, exploring the dimensions of photography and sculpture through digital techniques such as AI, 3D rendering, and Photoshop.

Palace of Photographic Sculptures
Includes works from his series Skulptura and new images from the project Michelangelo Iconoclastia. For Michelangelo Iconoclastia, Hauser visually reinterpreted an old tourist guide about Michelangelo’s sculptures. In Skulptura, he explores the cross-pollination between photography, fashion, and sculpture-- for example, creating 3D renderings of fashion designs by Vivienne Westwood and Viktor & Rolf.

Both projects stem from Hauser’s fascination with vintage photographs of sculptures and demonstrate his ability to give historical images a new form. This creates a captivating interplay for museum visitors between looking, seeing, and recognizing. With 'Palace of Photographic Sculptures', Hauser creates a style chamber where nothing is quite what it seems.
